The End of the TangoCMS Project
TangoCMS was built entirely by volunteers in their spare time. After a long period without development, the project lead officially announced the end of the project in October 2013.
The farewell notice
The announcement, published under the heading “End of an era for the TangoCMS project”, thanked everyone who had contributed code, bug reports, ideas or moral support, and credited the core developers Robert Clipsham, James Stephenson and Evangelos Foutras. The reason given was simple: other commitments had taken over, and nobody had time to keep working on the project.
The notice also explained what would happen next:
- The forum, manual, demo and development websites (forums., manual., demo. and dev.tangocms.org) were switched off and redirected to the notice.
- Limited help would still be offered in the project’s IRC channel.
- The GitHub repository and the release archives would remain available.
The full notice can be read in the Internet Archive.
What happened to the websites
| Period | What tangocms.org showed |

| 2007–2013 | The project website with news, downloads, documentation and security advisories |
| 2013–about 2021 | The farewell notice (“inactive” page) |

| since October 2026 | This site: notes on content management for dance and cultural organizations, plus this archive |
The former subdomains no longer exist. Links to them now lead to the matching page of this archive.
Why keep an archive?
Many websites, software directories and security databases still link to tangocms.org. People who follow those links deserve a clear answer instead of an error page: what TangoCMS was, that it is no longer maintained, and where the remaining code can be found. This archive is maintained by the current operator of the domain, who has no connection to the original developers.
