I'd like to announce that the long overdue TangoCMS 2.6.0 "dodo" has finally be released and available for download! This is a very important milestone for us, reflecting quite a few changes that have overall helped TangoCMS become far more powerful and easier to use.
A new look & new features
The first thing that people should notice when installing TangoCMS 2.6.0 is a new default admin theme, which has been designed to make it easier and more enjoyable to use TangoCMS. The older theme "innocent" was starting to show its age, something new was required to brighten up the interface - this is where "purity" comes in.
Many new features have been added, big and small which has made things either more consistent or more powerful/flexible.
The "media" module for example has been worked on to be more consistent, you can now upload media items from the admin control panel. A "zip" file of images, audio and video can now be uploaded and they will all be added as individual media items, making bulk uploads a very quick process with the titles automatically generated from the filename (which can be edited afterwards). Adding YouTube videos is also far easier as you now just paste the URL in (no more finding out the exact video ID to use) and it is all done using the same form as uploading a file.
Contact forms created using the "contact" module now allow you to enter text that will appear above the form, a simple yet useful feature as it allows you to tell the user additional information such as opening times, telephone numbers, address - or even a Google Map.
Permissions have been made more flexible for the "page" module, allowing you to specify who has permission to view, edit and manage (alter permissions, create sub pages) each individual page. Previous to this if someone had permission to edit a page, they had permission to edit every page.
Articles can now be configured to "expire", whereby articles older than the selected value (e.g. 2 months) will no longer be displayed in the listing, they can however still be viewed if the URL to the article is known.
In fact, there are so many little features, bug fixes and tweaks throughout this release that I can't list them all. Instead please view the ChangeLog for 2.6.0 to see what changes have taken place.
Zula CLI
For those who use the command line interface often, you'll be glad to know that Zula (the framework that powers TangoCMS) now has full CLI capabilities. This allows you to do 3 things:
- Stateless requests to any URL you would normally access via a browser
- Upgrade your current TangoCMS installation to the latest version
- Install TangoCMS

The road to 2.7.0
2.7.0 "Jackal" will be our next release, and we shall start to create the refine the roadmap for this very shortly. As myself, Robert and James are going to Seattle for the Jump In! Camp this Monday, I can only assume that 2.7.0 will have support for different RDBMS software, such as PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server.
